The Sun Route (Lake Titicaca)
Tour: The Sun Route (Lake Titicaca)
**We will travel along the famous “Sun Route” between the cities of Cusco and Puno, visiting five tourist sites. These include the colonial church of Andahuaylillas, known as the “Sistine Chapel of America,” Raqchi, “the Temple of Wiracocha, the creator of the Andean world,” Sicuani, a rural area where we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, La Raya, a tourist stop with beautiful Andean landscapes at 4,335 meters above sea level, and Pucará, known as the “Temple of Fertility.” Finally, we will arrive in the city of Puno.
Puno is located on the Collao Plateau and is highlighted by Lake Titicaca, a sacred place for the Incas that hosts both natural and artificial islands.
Puno has important tourist attractions such as circular constructions called chullpas and its colonial architecture churches. It is a town proud of its Quechua and Aymara heritage, with folkloric traditions that overflow every year in dances and rituals during the Festival of the Virgin of Candelaria.
Lake Titicaca, shining at the top of the Andes Mountains, is a tourist attraction, a spiritual oasis, and a cultural center all in one. It is also the highest lake in South America (at 12,507 feet / 3,812 meters) and the largest (with an impressive area of 3,230 square miles).
